Committees

West Kiwanis is organized into six standing committees, each of which brings ideas and recommendations to the club’s Board of Directors. The mission of each committee is listed below.  Each committee has a chairperson and a board liaison.

The Committee on Youth Services will have three main functions. First, the Youth Services Committee shall study, devise and suggest methods and means to assist boys and girls to adjust themselves to their environment and become adapted to the social, economic, educational, and moral demands they may encounter, and shall develop ways and means of assisting in the guidance of youth in selecting the suitable vocations, as well as other areas which the committee may deem pertinent.

Second, the Youth Services Committee shall be responsible for managing the youth grants process including, but not limited to, promoting the grants program, working with the Treasurer to determine available funds, answering inquiries from applicants, reviewing grant applications, contacting award recipients and recommending the allocation of funds to the Board of Directors. The Youth Services Grants Committee shall follow the approved guidelines for determining the make-up of the committee.

Lastly, this committee shall devise ways and means to establish Key Clubs in high schools and/or Circle K Clubs in the universities and colleges within the territorial limits of this club, and shall encourage and promote the activities of all Key Clubs and/or Circle K clubs sponsored by this club. In addition, the committee shall actively seek ways and means to incorporate members of all Key Clubs and/or Circle K clubs in all club related activities. Where appropriate, the club will work with sponsored youth organizations of other clubs.

The Committee on Community Services, Human and Spiritual Values will have three main functions. First, the Community Projects Committee shall study, devise and suggest methods and means whereby this club can render effective community services. Areas of concern shall include agricultural, conservation, environment, pollution, public and business affairs, international relations, safety, and social welfare, as well as other areas which the committee may deem pertinent.

Second, the Community Service Grant Committee shall be responsible for managing the community grants process including, but not limited to, promoting the grants program, working with the Treasurer to determine available funds, answering inquiries from applicants, reviewing grant applications, contacting award recipients recommending the allocation of funds to the Board of Directors. The Community Services Grants Committee shall follow the approved guidelines for determining the make-up of the committee.

Lastly, this committee shall cooperate on broad and non-denominational lines with religious leaders and groups in their communities to create a greater individual and public consciousness of the importance of religious and spiritual values.

The Committee on Public Relations and Marketing shall study, devise, and suggest methods and means of raising public awareness of Kiwanis International, of this club, and of the services performed by both locally and worldwide. Particular emphasis shall be placed on utilizing the most up to date technologies possible.

Chair: John Busby

The Committee on Membership Growth and Education shall devise ways and means of maintaining an adequate membership of such standards as are provided in these bylaws. The committee shall consider all proposals for membership and shall submit its recommendations to the Board of Directors. The committee shall also devise effective plans for the orientation and induction of new members and the utilization of all members. The committee shall also promote the concept of regular attendance at clubs meetings and active participation in club activities and committee work.

The Committee on Fund Raising shall study, devise, and suggest methods and means for improving and increasing the fund raising activities of the club so that its services may also expand and increase.

Chair: Bill Battista

The Committee on Club Meetings shall provide for the most effective club meeting possible for each week of the administrative year. Areas of responsibility involved include the club meeting program, music, house, reception, fellowship and interclub relations, as well as other areas which the committee may deem pertinent.
